Amateur Boxing Benefits
As opposed to professional boxing, amateur
boxing are won more through points than by actual knocking out or
physically damaging opponents. That is because of the amateur
boxing are more inclined on protecting the boxer’s interest than
with the media ratings.
Amateur boxing in the United States (or
sometimes called Olympic boxing for its appearance on Olympic
Games) is ruled several sanctioning bodies, including the Golden
Gloves Association of America, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) of
the United States, and USA Boxing. The Golden Gloves Association of
America is the most recognized and many boxing greats have once
fought in the national or regional Golden Gloves circuit. USA
Boxing is the national sanctioning body that regulates the amateur
boxers who’ll participate as the country’s representative national
boxing team on Olympic Games.
Because most the contestants on amateur boxing
are novices, boxing losses due to physical damage are infrequent
and knock outs are rarer still. So, in order to judge a fair score,
points are more awarded on critical punches and hits than on solid
but few punches. So it is a common sight to see a boxer floored
several times still winning points-wise.
The amateur boxing benefits are
readily obvious. One of the best recognized amateur boxing benefits
is the use of a protective headgear. This allows protection on
several grave areas most vulnerable to professional boxing: the
temples. A hit on the temples may cause severe brain damage, and
repeated hits increases likeability. Other amateur boxing benefits
for using a headgear is the protection of the ears, where many
professional boxers are deafened due to constant attacks on the ear
areas.
Another of the well known amateur boxing
benefits is that most fighters belonging to this division
are all starters, with relatively minor destructive power. So it is
rather uncommon to face considerable damage while playing in the
amateur division.
Unfortunately, these amateur boxing benefits are
the reasons why amateur boxing are the least viewed. Because most
of the time, amateur boxing would descend into attrition where both
boxers will repeatedly throw punches (and here you will see many
bolo punches), most of the time half hearted or lacking strength
because the winning boxer is, of course those that rack the most
points. And after a while seeing amateur boxers punch each other
out, the interest will gradually wear away.
But still, amateur boxing are considered because
it still is a regulated boxing with amateur boxing
benefits. In fact, many notable fighters, including a
number of legendary ones are stock of amateur boxing. These names
include Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), Sugar Ray Robinson, Petey
Scalzo among all others.
