Boxing Bags

Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci and Coach have one thing in common. They are all popular name brands of fashionable bags. In the boxing world these brands don’t even exist. Boxing athletes and aficionados can only recognize the different boxing bags and their uses.

Perhaps the most popular among the boxing bags that we know of is the punching bag. This bag is made to be sturdy to be used primarily for punching practices of the boxers, however other health and fitness enthusiasts in one of their exercise regimens also use this bag. Using the punching bag can help develop the stamina of the boxers, which is essential in long bouts. It can also advance the punching technique. Moreover it can also improve the strength and the fitness of the heart not just for the boxers but for others as well.

Punching bags are made of strong materials and filled with grains of sand or other fillings. They are fixed from the ceiling so it can take as a dummy opponent of the boxers. They are so designed to withstand the repetitive blows thrown by the boxers. Today we now hear the term “punching bag”, which have different connotation and simply refers to persons who have been the constant subject of an attack.

Speed bag is also one of the boxing bags used by boxers. This bag is lighter and extremely smaller than a punching bag, which is filled with air and is attached to hanger. Repetitive hitting of the speed bag can improve the eye and hand coordination as well as the speed of the boxers in training.

Another member of the boxing bags is the double-end bags. Like the speed the bag, this boxing bag is light and round. The bag is suspended using an elastic string at both ends, so the bag is in mid air. A semi-elastic string can also be used to tie and hung the bag from both ends vertically. Double-end bag is used to punching accuracy of the boxer in front of a moving object and to further develop the mobility of the boxer.

Other types of boxing bag are maize bag, heavy bag, and body opponent bag. The maize bag as the name suggest is filled with maize or corn kernels. Probably this is the only bag among the many boxing bags that is not punched by the boxers. This is used to improve the boxer’s mastery in evading the opponent’s punches and further develop their head motion.  The pedestal bag is a huge and heavy cylindrical bag mounted on an equally heavy pedestal. This bag is also used for punching exercises.

The most modern among the boxing bags is the body opponent bag that resembles like a dummy. This bag is made from a strong synthetic material to stand abrasion from the constant punches it receives from the boxers in training.

When we talk of boxing bags Title and Everlast are two of the names to beat. Gucci, Prada and others can’t even match to their popularity.
